    How to Do Reverse Reverb in Logic Pro

    Logic Pro doesn't ship a dedicated "reverse reverb" effect, but between its region-reverse function and ChromaVerb, you've got everything needed to build the swell by hand. Here's the manual method, plus a faster real-time alternative.

    Method 1: The Manual Way (Reverse Region + ChromaVerb)

    Step 1 — Isolate the sound. Put the vocal, drum hit, or chord you want to swell on its own track and audio region, separate from anything else.

    Step 2 — Reverse the region. Select the region, then go to Edit > Reverse (or right-click the region and choose Reverse). Logic flips the underlying audio file.

    Step 3 — Add ChromaVerb. Insert ChromaVerb (or any reverb you prefer) on that track's channel strip. Dial in the decay and size for the swell you're building — you're shaping the reversed tail here, not the final forward sound.

    Step 4 — Bounce in place. Select the region and use Bounce in Place (Shift+Ctrl+B) to render the reversed audio plus reverb into a new audio file.

    Step 5 — Reverse again. Select that newly bounced region and reverse it one more time. Because the reverb was added before this second flip, the tail is now sitting in front of the original hit instead of behind it — that's the swell.

    Step 6 — Line it up. Drag the region so the original transient lands exactly on the beat or word you want, and trim the front and back.

    Common Mistakes

    • Reversing before committing edits — if the region still has fades, gain changes, or Flex applied, reversing can behave unpredictably. Consolidate first.
    • Reverb decay too long — a big tail can blur into the transient instead of framing it. Shorter, more controlled decays usually read cleaner.
    • Forgetting Bounce in Place settings — make sure tail and normalization settings match what you expect, or the render can clip or cut the tail short.
    • Misaligned timing after the second reverse — small trims early on can shift where the transient lands. Zoom in and check against the grid.

    Method 2: A Real-Time Insert (Preverb)

    The manual chain is free and lets you use any reverb you already own, but it's six steps every time the part changes — a new vocal take, a moved hit, a different arrangement.

    Preverb ships as an AU, so it drops straight onto a Logic channel strip like any stock plugin. Dial in swell length and amount and it's generating the effect live — no bouncing, no re-reversing, no rebuilding the chain when the take changes.

    Which Method Should You Use?

    Use the manual method if: you're doing this once on a track, you want a specific reverb algorithm you already own, or you enjoy the sound-design process.

    Use a real-time plugin if: the part is still evolving, you're doing this across many hits or tracks, or you want the swell editable live instead of committed at bounce time.
